I love Easter picture books that feature eggs and bunnies just as much as anyone, believe me! However, if you’re anything like me, you really want to reinforce the reason for this magnificent celebration with your kids: the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Story of Easter illustrated by Helen Dardik is the perfect book to add to your Easter collection, and we made a fun and easy Easter Jesus collage to go along that is definitely worth checking out!

As I mentioned in the video, The Story of Easter by Helen Dardik does such a fabulous job of taking the very heavy hearted biblical events of Christ’s death and resurrection and breaks them down into simple and straightforward language for kids. And just look at these illustrations! The gorgeous colors and fun patterns captured my girls’ attention throughout the whole book.

As striking as these illustrations are, the best part of this book in my opinion is how it helps my girls better understand the importance of Easter. I try to tell my children every day that Jesus loves them, and this book helps deepen that understanding.

Gather these supplies:

*My 4 year old did the tracing and most of the cutting for this project. If you need to save time or your child isn’t ready for all the cutting, you can have many of the shapes pre-cut.

Print clouds onto blue background with white paint & sponge brush. Set aside to dry.

Trace a paper plate onto the yellow paper for a halo & cut out. Print gold lines using the metallic paint & cardboard rectangles.

Trace hair & beard shapes onto the BACK of the brown painted paper & cut out. Fold one of the papers in half and trace the beard template along the fold to create a symmetrical beard. Then trace face shape onto skin colored paper & cut out.

Trace the hair template on the back of the brown painted or plain brown paper and cut out.

Arrange hair and beard over the face, then draw the facial features: eyes, eye browns, nose, mouth and cheeks.

Fold white paper in half and draw a curved line. Cut out to make a symmetrical body (shoulders that look like a hill). Glue all shapes to the background.

My 4 year old had a blast with this project! But my two year old also LOVED playing with the materials in her own process-based collage. If you have younger siblings who want in on the fun, include some extra supplies so they can make a creation of their own at the same time!
