Holy Eucharist Art for Kids

Primary Blog/Holy Eucharist Art for Kids

We had so much fun making this Holy Eucharist Art project for kids, especially with the feast of Corpus Christi right around the corner. Any time we help children begin to understand Christ’s true presence in the Eucharist, it is time well spent!

I hope you and your children or students can enjoy this simple and beautiful art project that celebrates the miracle of the Eucharist with the hopes of planting seeds of faith in their hearts.

THE BOOK

Jesus Speaks to Me About The Mass by Angela Burrin is a wonderful book to tie in with this project because it has such a unique way of helping children understand the miracle of the Eucharist in the Mass through Jesus speaking directly to them. The language is simple enough for them to understand, and even if you just pick one spread to focus on, it really is very impactful for young children. Also, the illustrations are quite beautiful and serve as wonderful visual examples for the creation of the chalice in this art project. Be sure to also check out Jesus Speaks to Me On My First Holy Communion.

Another wonderful book that helps children understand the true presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist is this:

I Look at Jesus and Jesus Looks at Me by Nannet Horton and illustrtated by Lucy Read is DYNAMITE for helping children understand the Eucharist. The book takes children through how wheat grows from a tiny seed planted into the soil and how it truly becomes our greatest treasure on earth. It does a beautiful job of helping children understand what Holy Communion really means.

CREATE

Here is how it all came together:

Fold your 12″ x 18″ white paper in half the long way.

Following the drawing guide, draw half of the chalice starting toward the top of the paper and along the folded edge, but not all the way (make sure to leave room for the Host!)

Cut out the shape while the paper is folded and then unfold to reveal a symmetrical shape. Using metallic Kwik Stix or paint sticks, color in the chalice.

Add decorative details and patterns with metallic oil pastels. They show up great over the paint sticks!

Glue a piece of white paper on the bottom of the black background for the altar. Then using the side of a white and gold oil pastel, rub radiating lines for a glowing effect for the host.

Glue down the chalice toward the bottom of the paper. Color in the Host with a peach or tan oil pastel or crayon and add a simple cross with a brown crayon. Cut out and glue over the chalice. For some added sparkle, paint some gold glitter paint over the radiating lines from the Host!
